SDCC 2014 – Monster High & Ever After High

If you’re into Monster High or are just a geek in general, you probably know that the San Diego ComiCon took place this past weekend; this is the place where many of the big toy reveals for next year happen, and I’ve compiled a photo archive here of Monster High and EAH’s SDCC offerings.  They’re roughly in the order that they were shown at the con, and all of them should link through to their sources.

Monster High

Manny & Iris, SDCC 2014 Exclusive 2-pack

Nice set of box pics here and here.

See Manny’s diary here; Iris’ diary is here.  Pics of nude Manny here.

Manny’s jacket is apparently packaged separately from the dolls in the box; there are rumors that they were meant only for people who pre-ordered through Matty Collector and that there were only three hundred of them… but that the people working the booth were not aware and gave them out to everyone at first.  So some people didn’t get them and some people have apparently not realized it was in the bottom of the bag, so if you bought a set of these dolls make sure you get the jacket too!

It’s confirmed that she is on the big sister body, as you can see that she is between Rochelle and Garrott in height:

“Scarisian Vacation” 2-pack with Garrott Du Roque and Rochelle Goyle

Garrott DuRoque is the boyfriend of Rochelle Goyle, who still resides in Scaris. Following her departure to the USA to attend Monster High, he and Rochelle lost contact. They met up again in the TV special “Scaris: City of Frights” and rekindled their relationship.

Some detail pics here.

Monster Maker

Promo video here.  We saw this for the first time at NYCC last year, but now we get to see it in action; I had thought it was some kind of 3-d printer, but it appears that the Monster Maker just draws on the dolls, controlled via a free app that comes along with the machine.  I think they were saying last year that it was going to retail for around $150, but I haven’t seen anyone confirm that since SDCC.

Original Ghouls

The Original Ghouls Collection is a re-release of the original 6 character dolls, and will be online exclusive. It will be available as a bundle with all 6, but Draculaura, Frankie, Clawdeen and Cleo will also be offered individually (with Lagoona and Ghoulia remaining exclusive to the bundle version).  I read that the individuals will retail for $15, and the bundle will be $80.

Lots of detail shots here.

And they’ve already been found for sale somewhere.

New Inner Monster

As far as I can tell, there was one new Inner Monster set in the display case – the one with the big yellow wings; it was not included when they debuted the other sets at NYCC, though we’ve seen stock photos of it online recently.

Monster Exchange

This line is exactly what it sounds like, a student exchange program at Monster High.  Two new characters were introduced for this line, along with new versions of some of the main MH cast.

The first new character revealed was Lorna McNessie from Rotland, daughter of the Loch Ness Monster; she’s on the little sister body:

The other new character is Marisol Coxi from Monster Picchu, daughter of the Maricoxi (South American bigfoot); so far we’ve only seen the stock image, but it’s clear she has the big sister body (along with big furry feet!):

Haunted

According to mhinsider (who was at the MH panel at the con), Haunted will be a Spectra movie, and looks like it features Frankie, Draculaura, Clawdeen, Twyla, Rochelle and Ghoulia.  The girls will be turned to ghosts and go to a haunted high school.

There are several new character dolls debuting with the movie, along with ghost-ified versions of some of the main crew.

Vandala Doubloons, ghost pirate with a removable peg leg:

River Styxx, daughter of the Grim Reaper (and Reaper-In-Training); she has the little sister body:

The rest of the Haunted line, that weren’t actually shown at the con:

There’s also going to be a as yet unnamed playset that comes with a Spectra doll:

Freaky Field Trip

Freaky Field Trip is a new budget line featuring Toralei Stripe, Clawdeen Wolf, and Gigi Grant – pics here.

The last MH thing to be revealed at the con was a new line of vinyl figures, with Draculaura as the spearhead.  These are purportedly not Funko, and are actually a bit smaller than the Funko figures at 4 1/2 to 51/2 inches tall.

Lizzie Hearts

And.. that’s it.  That’s all we got from EAH at ComiCon – Lizzie was the only new thing revealed.

Lorna McNessie is really, really pretty! “Hi, Lorna, you need dresses in EVERY VINTAGE-STYLE PRINT in that color scheme!” My fingers are twitching here.

Mattel had said in its last earnings call that they were going to bring out lots and lots of new Monster High dolls because sales were no longer growing by leaps and bounds. They were not kidding! (It’s not in danger or anything — the line just isn’t the massive growth driver that it was when it first came out.)

Thankyou for a detailed round-up – I’ve been seeing these images here and there online and you’ve helped me make sense of it all now … I am most impressed with River (psychedelic!) and Kiyomi. I also like the Haunted makeovers and am interested to see the new versions of Catrine – I tell myself now that they are too similar to what I already own, but I’ll probably end up getting them anyway *sigh*. I love the two-pack Rochelle too. Oh, who am I kidding? I love them all (apart from Manny and Iris, but thats a good thing – I breathed a sigh of relief when I realised at least there were two dolls who weren’t tempting me …)

Wow, thanks for putting together a recap. I didn’t know so many new dolls were coming out! Gloom and Bloom Venus, Lorna McNessie and Cerise Wolf are my favorites. I need to add them to my collection!

I am new to Monster High Dolls (at 35 years old, lol…I love them all!) and I am really thrilled to see the re-release of all the original ghouls. I have been holding off getting them (esp. Ghoulia, Laguna, and Cleo due to their crazy ebay prices)…so you totally made my day! Any idea when these are expected to be available? Thanks so much for the great post!

Hi there – we are pretty much the same age, so you’re in good company here! ^^

The rerelease of the “Original Ghouls” is pretty awesome, though I’m personally rather miffed that the quality isn’t as good as the originals and that Ghoulia and Lagoona aren’t being sold separately.

I’m pretty sure the “Original Ghouls” have an official release date of Sept. 14 in the USA – they are starting to pop up for sale here and there already though.

Lol, good to know about the age thing 😉 Yeah…after looking more closely at the photos, I definitely saw some differences with these re-releases, a bit cheapo in some of the shoes, etc, which is a bummer. Thanks for the response!
