Monster High & Ever After High @ the NY Toy Fair

It’s time for the 2014 New York Toy Fair, the “largest toy and youth product marketplace in the Western Hemisphere”; many of the big toy companies make a showing and reveal new products at this event.

There’s plenty of people who’ve been reporting on the toy fair, so I’m just going to compile the best photos I could find of the stuff that interests me personally, as well as give an overall rundown on what we can expect from these toy lines for 2014 (photos should all click through to the original source).  This particular post is going to cover Monster High and Ever After High, sister lines from Mattel.

Monster High has quite a few new reveals at the NY toy fair.

The one I’m most excited for is the “Zombie Shake” line, which we saw a few leaked photos of recently.

This line includes the werecat twins, Purrsephone and Meowlody, which will be released as a two-pack:

There’s going to be a second 2-pack in the Zombie Dance line as well, with Venus McFlytrap and Rochelle Goyle:

One of the other really interesting new things Monster High revealed at the toy fair, which we had also seen some blurrry leaked images of recently, is the Inner Monster line, which seems to be 2014’s Create-A-Monsters – they have changeable face plates, alternating eyes, and lots of neat accessories.

“Monsters have feelings too! Customize the expressions of these creepy cool creatures by changing their eyes, facial expressions and their fashions! Sets include one full doll with eye-changing feature, one interchangeable face plate, a peggable/interchangeable skeleton and chest plate, inner piece count, over-the-top fashion, accessories, purse, doll stand, brush and fill-in-the-blank diary. Choose from three killer options: Fearfully Feisty n Mad Love*, Spooky Sweet n Frightfully Fierce* and Scared Silly n Shockingly Shy*”

Mad Love & Fearfully Feisty:

There are going to be three Inner Monster add-on packs, as we saw from the recent leaked images.  These add-on packs appear to include a wig, a faceplate, a dress/outfit, shoes, arm & leg wraps, and a couple of small accessories .

The video below shows more from the toy fair. The Monster High stuff starts at :36. At :53, you’ll see the big new Monster High Catacombs playset, then at 1:17 they show the Inner Monster dolls. In the video it shows how if you push on Inner Monsters dolls’ brains their eyes change to one of three different designs.

The main Monster High “entertainment property” for 2014 is going to be Freaky Fusion, which features mashups of the main characters, as well as new characters that are combinations of different types of monsters.

Neighthan Rot is a new character created for this line; he is a zombie-unicorn apparently, and he has terrible taste in fashion.  He’s going to be some ghoul’s love interest in the movie (in which, incidentally, they travel back in time – the only excuse for his outfit is if they go to the 80s.)

Unfortunately the bio on the back is for Clawvenus, not Neighthan.

The other new characters in Freaky Fusion that they’re making doll of are “Sirena Von Boo” who is a mermaid-ghost, “Avea Trotter” who is a centaur-harpy(?) and “Bonita Femur” who is a skeleton-moth, were not displayed, though they can be seen in some Freaky Fusion promos that were playing on a screen at the toy fair.

Lagoonafire (Lagoona Blue + Jinafire Long):

Cleolei (Cleo DeNile + Toralei Stripe):

Dracubecca (Draculaura + Robecca Steam):

Clawvenus (Clawdeen Wolf + Venus McFlytrap):

Over the top amazing! That hair! Those ears! That fantastically draggy outfit with the flytrap skirt and the belt, and that fur and that jewelry! I even like her skintone. Clawvenus is a stupid name, but this doll is utterly wonderful.

Going along with the Freaky Fusion line will also be a “recharge chamber” playset with a Frankie Stein doll included:

“At the riveting climax of the Monster High® movie, Freaky Fusion, the beast ghoulfriends of Frankie Stein® rally around to give her back her spark with this hair-raising Recharge Chamber! Comes with a one-of-a-kind Frankie Stein® doll wearing a voltageous fashion and shocking shoes. Place her in the chamber, and press the button for hair-raising fun – her hair literally rises into a shocking ‘do! Press the light again for a spooktacular light show for clawesome room decor.”

From leaked images and info from people who took some Monster High product surveys, there will also be a slim-box Freaky Fusion line with Frankie, Ghoulia, Operetta and Scarah dressed as other monsters.  There was no info about these dolls at the toy fair however.

A few other Monster High lines were revealed at the toy fair..

Ghoul Sports:

(love that box art) This doll is surprisingly appealing to me.. I don’t usually like Spectra dolls.

New Coffin Bean dolls:

The next wave of New Scaremester was also shown for the first time, though we’ve seen some of the art already:

Clear feet!

Catty Noir:

There’s going to be a New Scaremester Gigi Grant as well:

And finally for the new Monster High doll reveals there is this apparently untitled duo, which I’m hereby dubbing “I ❤ Accessories”:

As I mentioned above, Monster High is releasing another large playset – the Catacombs Castle.  It is even larger than the high school playset and has space for 16 dolls; the release date has not been officially announced, but it will probably be summer 2014 with Freaky Fusion line.

Another new product shown at the toy fair is a licensed Monster High styling head called “Glam Your Ghoul”, with a glow in the dark face and all sorts of customizing options.  I really enjoy the fact that they’ve made it to look like a disembodied head in a jar.

According to tumblr user sweetsunnyb, all the Monster High dolls at the toy fair have release dates sometime in June, though the way Mattel usually works we’ll see them sooner. The only ones that she could not pre-order were the wave 2 coffin bean, so “no clue when they will come out. They looked like prototypes, so they may change before we see them in stores.”

Mattel’s big up and coming line Ever After High also had a showing at the toy fair.

Cedar Wood’s signature doll was revealed for the first time:

There are a few changes from her original design – the biggest ones are that they got rid of her wrist cuffs and bolts, and changed her shoes & socks.  Not improvements, imo.  And wtf is up with her face?

A new line called “Thronecoming” also debuted:

Thronecoming Apple White:

Thronecoming Raven Queen:

Thronecoming Blondie Lockes:

Thronecoming C.A. Cupid:

Those wings are gorgeous!

We’ve seen photos of shoes from this mold before, being sold on Taobao I think:

They’re much prettier in gold.

Ever After High also revealed a new wave of Legacy Day dolls, which we’ve been hearing rumors of for a while.

Ashlynn Ella:

Maddie Hatter:

Cerise Hood:

I’ve also read that there will be a line called “Crowning” that’s going to be related to a tv special and feature fan voting to decide which character gets crowned.  There’s also going to be a “Hat-tastic Party” line in 2014, and a castle playset that folds up to look like a book, as well as signature dolls of Lizzie Hearts and Dexter Charming.  None of these have been shown yet though, and there was no mention of them at the toy fair.

And that about wraps it up for Monster High and Ever After High; there wasn’t really anything groundbreaking that we hadn’t already seen leaked photos of, but there’s definitely a few things that are very cool and it was great being able to see all the close up photos of the new stuff.  Shout out to sweetsunnyb on tumblr for taking some great pics and sharing them with us all (not to mention the plethora of photos Ricky Brigante of posted on flickr – thanks!).

I’ll be publishing another post shortly that will have some photos of other cool stuff that was displayed in New York, so check back for more toy fair goodness.

Thanks for putting this together! I have a few favourites, if only I had the money to buy everything I want, too!

Great post, this was a feast! The werecats are awesome, as is Clawdeen with the baseball outfit (that bone is gorgeous). And that huge playset, wow! Invisibilly looks so sad, but I like his facemold. I liked so much more, thanks for sharing this!

Thanks so much for all these wonderful pictures and putting them all in one place for me to drool over, I am most interested in the new Ever After High dolls, I really want Cedar Wood, Legacy Day Ashlynn and Cerise and Thronecoming Cupid, they are all so beautiful but I just can’t afford to get more than 1 of each doll.
